Matthew McConaughey Cast in Guy Ritchie's New Action Film 'Toff Guys'

The trailer for director Guy Ritchie's live-action film Aladdin, starring Will Smith, is set to drop today, and the internet is abuzz. While we wait for it to land (and we promise to post once it's available!), there's other Ritchie news to mull over.

This summer we learned he's getting back to the genre that made him famous with punchy new crime flickToff Guys. And just today (October 11) it was announced Matthew McConaughey has signed on to star opposite Kate Beckinsale (Underworld) and Henry Golding (Crazy Rich Asians).

Insiders told Deadline: "Pic is set at the intersection of Sexy Beast and Downton Abbey, and follows a very English drug lord attempting to cash out on his highly profitable empire by selling it off to a dynasty of Oklahoma billionaires."

That description reveals that the director truly is getting back to his British crime caper filmmaking past, when he wowed audiences with mobster movies like Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (1998) and Snatch (2000).

Who's playing who has yet to be revealed but McConaughey, a native of Texas, can turn a Southern drawl on — and then off again — like no other. While Oklahoma isn't considered the South, you get where we're going with this...

Okay, so we have McConaughey backed by a couple of Brits, Golding and Beckinsale. Is one of them the posh drug lord? We'll have to wait for another update to confirm.

Since Ritchie eased off the the organized crime films, he's brought other blockbusters to the big screen, like 2009's Sherlock Holmes, starring Robert Downey Jr. in the title role, and its sequel, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows in 2011. Then there's the 2015's espionage film The Man from U.N.C.L.E., starring Henry Cavill and Armie Hammer.
