Martin Scorsese has cast an all-star lineup for his film The Irishman, including Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Joe Pesci and Harvey Keitel.

De Niro plays the title role, Frank "The Irishman" Sheeran. The biopic tells of union labor leader Jimmy Hoffa, who went missing in 1965 and the role that The Irishman, also a labor teamster, may have played in his disappearance.

The first trailer gives us a listen to Pacino's Hoffa talking to De Niro's Irishman. We're thinking it might be code, as there's not much to what's said, at least on the surface:

Okay, we weren't wrong about the two having their own language: "I heard you paint houses," as heard in the above, means to kill a man. The paint is the blood that spatters on the walls and floor of the house.

These were the first words Hoffa said to The Irishman, and also make up the title of author Charles Brandt's organized true account book I Heard You Paint Houses: Frank "The Irishman" Sheeran & Closing the Case on Jimmy Hoffa, which the film is based on.

This is the ninth feature film Scorsese and De Niro have worked on together, with the first being 1973's Mean Streets, also starring Keitel. Like De Niro, Keitel has worked with Scorsese more than once, including Scorsese's first feature film 1967's Who's That Knocking on My Door and 1976's Taxi Driver (also starring De Niro). Scorsese worked with Pesci on 1980's Raging Bull, 1990's Goodfellas, 1995's Casino (yes, all three also starring De Niro; we know, we know, there's a lot of overlap).

This is the first time the director will be working with Pacino.

The Irishman will have a limited theatrical release this coming fall, followed by a premiere via Netflix.
