Margot Robbie Receives First Oscar Nomination... Who Else Made the Cut?

If you've been gearing up for your office Oscars pool, then today's the day things get real. The 2018 nominations have just been confirmed, so now you can study up and get your strategy together.

This morning (January 23) Tiffany Haddish (Girls Trip) and Andy Serkis (Star Wars: The Last Jedi) hosted the 90th Oscars nominations with special guests on hand to help, including but not limited to Rosario Dawson, Gal Gadot and Rebel Wilson.

And, some deserving Anglo regulars were honored, including Margot Robbie, who was nominated for Best Actress for her portrayal of Tonya Harding in the dark comedy I, Tonya. Robbie is joined by another actress on our watch list, Sally Hawkins, who stars in The Shape of Water. Rounding out the category are Frances McDormand (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri), Meryl Streep (The Post) and Saoirse Ronan (Lady Bird).

Paul Thomas Anderson's Phantom Thread, which marks Daniel Day-Lewis' final on-screen performance before retiring from acting, received nods for Best Film, Best Director and Best Actor in a Leading Role for Day-Lewis. As well, Lesley Manville is nominated for her supporting role. It doesn't stop there; the film has also landed in the Achievement in Costume Design category.

That has to be nice — five feathers in one hat.

Day-Lewis is joined in the Best Actor category by Daniel Kalyuuya (Get Out), Gary Oldman (Darkest Hour), Denzel Washington (Roman J. Israel, Esq.) and newcomer, Timothée Chalamet (Call Me by Your Name).

All the Best Picture titles have been mentioned above, minus one: Dunkirk. Bundled together, it's an impressive list: Call Me by Your Name, Darkest Hour, Dunkirk, Get Out, Lady Bird, Phantom Thread, The Post, The Shape of Water, and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.

While Dunkirk was overlooked for a single standout actor, Christopher Nolan is recognized in the Achievement in Directing category. The film has also been nominated in five other categories, including Achievement in Production Design and Achievement in Cinematography.

Joining Anderson and Nolan for Achievement in Directing are Jordan Peele (Get Out), Greta Gerwig (Lady Bird) and Guillermo del Toro (Shape of Water).

When we get to the Best Actor in a Supporting Role category, the net widens, with Willem Dafoe (The Florida Project) and Christopher Plummer (All the Money in the World) — who at 88 is also the oldest actor ever to receive an Oscar nod — nominated alongside Woody Harrelson and Sam Rockwell for Three Billboards, and Richard Jenkins for The Shape of Water.

It's pretty much the same deal for Actress in a Supporting Role, with the nominations mostly plucked from the heavy hitting titles: there's Allison Janney for I, Tonya, Lesley Manville for Phantom Thread, Laurie Metcalfe for Lady Bird, and Octavia Spencer for Shape of Water. One as of yet unmentioned film — Mudbound — shakes up the list with a nod for Mary J. Blige's performance.

The 2018 Academy Awards will take place on March 4, at 8pm EST/PST, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel for the second year in a row.
