Mads Mikkelsen has shared his thoughts on the planned Hollywood remake of Oscar-winning Danish movie Another Round.
Mikkelsen stars in the highly acclaimed original, which won the Best International Feature Film prize at this year's Academy Awards. It centers on four Copenhagen schoolteachers who embark on an experiment to find out if increasing the amount of alcohol in their blood through day-drinking on a regular basis can improve their work and home lives.
Following the movie's Oscar success, it was reported by Deadline in late April that an English-language remake is being developed as a potential star vehicle for Leonardo DiCaprio. The actor's production company Appian Way is behind the remake.
"It's always tricky to make a remake but on the other hand I understand why," Mikkelsen told Entertainment Weekly. "Because even though a lot of people might watch [the original], it's not that big. Having said that, I have a hunch that a lot of Americans [have] watched this one. So it's going to be interesting, the remake." You can watch the original film's trailer below.
Discussing the movie's content, Mikkelsen added: "There are some cultural differences with alcohol from nation to nation, especially between Denmark and America. Everyone's always like, won't they approach it really differently in America? Maybe. Maybe not. I mean the film is about embracing life and re-finding your life. I think if they get that right, they can have some freedom with the alcohol."
Earlier this month Mikkelsen, who received a BAFTA nomination for his Another Round performance, also shared his thoughts on joining the Fantastic Beasts franchise as a replacement for Johnny Depp.
