Actress Pamela Anderson and rocker Tommy Lee’s tumultuous love affair is getting the biopic treatment, with the eight-part series Pam & Tommy.
Anderson is given top billing in the title, with Lily James stepping in to portray the bombshell actress.
We’ve seen some push back on social media that the series might not be Anglo readers’ cuppa, but with James being a regular on the blog, it seems worth talking about.
And, James is talking…
She backtracks to the start of the series, saying she had some serious doubts. So serious that she thought about backing out of the project.
In an interview with Variety, she says, “I really wanted to pull out of this a week before.”
She also says that she thought to herself, “I can’t do it. I can’t do it.”
It’s natural to be hesitant when starting something new.
James elaborates on why she found it so rattling: “It just felt too frightening. But I think that’s a good place to work from because it keeps you growing and getting better, I hope.”
Screenwriter and co-showrunner Robert Siegel chimed in, providing background on the expectations for this role, saying, “Pam’s smart, shrewd, kind of wholesome; she grew up in small-town Canada. She has a real sweetness to her, and almost an innocence that we wanted to come across. In the first reactions to casting Lily, people on Twitter were like, ‘Why didn’t they cast Megan Fox?’ I was like, no, they’re not getting it.”
It seems James has hit the mark, with Siegel confirming, “I sometimes will see a picture of Lily in character, and it takes a second to just double-check in my mind that it’s not the real Pam.”
There have been times that we, too, see a photo of James in character and think it is the former Baywatch star:

Even if the storyline isn’t necessarily a go-to for you, it might be worth checking out to see the transformations, with James starring opposite Sebastian Stan as Lee.
Pam & Tommy kicks off on February 2 over at Hulu.
Are you going to go into this with an open mind?
