Len Wiseman, co-creator of the Underworld franchise — five films in all, starring Kate Beckinsale as the vampire Selene — is set to bring the action-horror thriller to TV.

If you're keen on the movies, that's wonderful, but be prepared — the TV adaptation will offer something a little different. Wiseman talked to Deadline Hollywood, "The series will be a pretty big departure from the films."

Underworld, the first of the five installments, came out in 2003 and revolves around Selene (Beckinsale), a vampire set on destroying the lycans, a breed of werewolves she believes slaughtered her family. To complicate matters, she found herself falling in love with a human (Scott Speedman). We also saw performances by Bill Nighy as Viktor and Michael Sheen as Lucian

Follow-ups rolled out every three years (for the most part), with 2006's Underworld: Evolution, 2009's Underworld: Rise of the Lycans, 2012's Underworld: Awakening, and, finally, 2016's Underworld: Blood Wars. Wiseman directed and co-wrote the first two films with Kevin Grevioux and Danny McBride. He executive produced the final three.

And, now, with a TV series in the works, Wiseman expands on what to expect, saying, "I don't want to say it's more adult, but it's definitely less comic book in its tone and character."

To clarify, the films are not based on comic books, as the quote above may imply. But, there is indeed a graphic novel, The Complete Underworld, written by Kris Oprisko, which is based on the first two films and includes a prequel, set hundreds of years prior.

There's no start date for the series as of yet. But, as Deadline points out, all of the pilots Wiseman has directed — Hawaii Five-O, Sleepy Hollow, Lucifer, and A.P.B — have gone to series. So we're confident this is going to happen.

Of course, there is one lingering question: who will play Selene?
