Kristin Scott Thomas has been a household name for a while now, starring in the 1996 film The English Patient and more recently in Slow Horses, opposite Gary Oldman. She’s now stepping behind the camera, handling directing duties.
Thomas is working on her first feature film, entitled The Sea Change, reports Deadline. Casting has begun with Scarlett Johansson set to star.
The movie is an adaptation of Elizabeth Jane Howard’s 1959 novel. The story revolves around a famous playwright and his wife, Emmanuel and Lillian. The couple are struggling with the loss of their daughter, who died as a baby.
It’s understandable to hold onto a memory, but at the same time, it could become crippling.
According to the book’s description, the story picks up fourteen years later. Emmanuel practices avoidance, throwing himself into the arms of his secretaries. Lillian, on the other hand, carries a photo of her deceased daughter and places the photo on the bed stand of every hotel they visit.
When Emmanuel hires a new assistant, she brings change. It’s just not clear in what way.
What we do know is Johansson has been cast to star in the forthcoming film. It’s yet to be announced what role she will be playing.
Our vote is for her to portray the new assistant. What about you?
