Kenneth Branagh, Riz Ahmed and Jane Campion were among the winners at Sunday night's Academy Awards.
Branagh took home the Best Original Screenplay prize for Belfast, his coming-of-age movie about the city he was born in. It's his first Oscar win from eight nominations.
"This story is a search for joy and hope in the face of violence and loss," Branagh told the audience at L.A.'s Dolby Theatre as he collected his trophy. "We will never forget all of those lost in the heart-breaking, heartwarming human story of that amazing city of Belfast on the fabulous island of Ireland. This means a lot."

Campion won the Best Director award – pipping fellow nominees including Branagh – for her work on The Power of the Dog, a Gothic Western movie starring Benedict Cumberbatch. "I love directing because it’s a deep dive into story, and yet the task of manifesting a world can be overwhelming. The sweet thing is I'm not alone," said Campion, who became only the third woman to win the Oscars' Best Director prize after Kathryn Bigelow and Chloé Zhao.

Ahmed and director Aneil Karia won the Best Short Film (Live Action) prize for The Long Goodbye, which they co-wrote together. Ahmed was previously nominated for Best Actor last year, but this was his first Oscar win.
"This is for everyone who feels like they’re stuck in No Man’s Land,” Ahmed said as he accepted the award alongside Karia. "You're not alone. We’ll meet you there."

Other winners at the 2022 Academy Awards included Jessica Chastain for The Eyes of Tammy Faye, Will Smith for King Richard, Ariana DeBose for West Side Story and Troy Kotsur for CODA. Kotsur made history by becoming the first deaf man to win an acting award at the Oscars.
Popular Brits who attended the awards ceremony included acting nominees Cumberbatch, Olivia Colman, Judi Dench and Andrew Garfield.
CODA, a coming-of-age movie about a young woman (Emilia Jones) growing up as the only hearing person in a deaf family, won the prestigious Best Picture prize. Sci-fi blockbuster Dune was the most rewarded movie of the night with six wins including Best Cinematography. You can check out a full list of winners here.
