Dame Julie Andrews' place in entertainment history is assured thanks to her iconic roles in Mary Poppins, The Sound of Music, and The Princess Diaries, to name but three. But in recent years, she's found a whole new fanbase as the voice of gossipy (but beautifully spoken) Lady Whistledown in Bridgerton, the hit period drama created by Shonda Rhimes.
During a new interview, however, Andrews revealed that she has never actually met any of her Bridgerton castmates in real life.
When appearing on the Today show, she said, "Shonda Rhimes and the whole gang, they're terrific. It's a joy and I'm thrilled that they asked me. But I've never met the company in person."
She also shared, "Of course, I see them on the show sometimes. But I do all my own recording far, far away from them."
Bridgerton is filmed at various locations in the U.K., including the historic city of Bath, but Andrews has lived for many years in Long Island, New York. Her latest role is another voice part: playing Marlena, the mother of Steve Carell's Gru, in Minions: The Rise of Gru. It opens in theaters Friday, July 1.
