Josh Brolin has shared some thoughts on missing out on one of pop culture's most iconic roles: Bruce Wayne, aka Batman.
During an appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the actor said he was in contention to play the caped crusader in Zack Snyder's 2016 movie Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, but the director ultimately went in a different direction.
"That was interesting to me,” Brolin said. "That was his decision, that wasn't my decision."
The prestigious role in Snyder's movie ultimately went to Ben Affleck, who was 43 when the movie came out. He is five years younger than Brolin. Discussing what his own Batman might have been like, Brolin said:  "It would have been the older, the more raspy [version], for lack of a better word. Honestly, that would have been a fun deal. And maybe I'll do it when I'm 80."
Brolin also revealed what attracted him to the big-budget movie. Namely, the sense of risk involved. He explained that he "liked those odds" when a role is "set up to not work at all or to work flyingly."
Though Brolin has missed out on Batman – at least so far – he's since appeared in the Marvel blockbuster Deadpool and Denis Villeneuve's sci-fi epic Dune, so he's definitely had the chance to stretch his wings in some very high-profile movies.
