A trio of brilliant British actresses are booting up for An Unsuitable Game, a soccer movie based on an inspiring true story.
Deadline reports that Mandie Fletcher (Absolutely Fabulous) will direct the film uniting The End of the F***ing World's Jessica Barden, Fleabag's Sian Clifford, and Downton Abbey's Jessica Brown Findlay.
The movie will tell the story of a group of women who formed an amateur soccer team during World War One despite sexist objections from the press and male members of their local community. It's an especially timely story given the soaring popularity of women's football in the U.K. around the world. England's national team, the Lionesses, recently won the UEFA Women's Championship for the first time ever.
Fletcher said of the movie: "This is a story that just has to be told, about the extraordinary women who forged the first steps on the road now trodden by the triumphant Lionesses."
Shooting is due to start shooting in Spring 2023, which gives Fletcher, Clifford, and Brown Findlay plenty of time to perfect their soccer skills.
