You can look for Jamie Dornan in the forthcoming miniseries The Tourist, premiering on BBC One in the U.K. and HBO Max in the U.S.
We see Dornan as a British expat, living in Australia. Following a car accident, he finds himself in a hospital, with no memory of who he is.
Dornan recently talked to the Radio Times about what a challenging project it was to work on. One might think, he’s referring to filming during quarantine, but he’s talking about the character itself.
Dornan’s character, who simply goes by The Man, spends the rest of the series trying to figure out what happened, who he is, and where to go from here.
Dornan talks about the longevity of the struggle, saying, “I’ve played characters who have lost their memory before and are trying to piece things together, but not on this sort of scale and for this long.”
Playing a character who is in constant flux definitely sounds trying.
Dornan expanded on what the character is going through, saying, “He’s constantly in a battle with himself and with all the information he’s getting, which is pretty much always bad news.”
That is definitely a lot for one to process, especially with no breaks from the never-ending pile-on...
He goes on to explain what kind of affect it has on The Man: “That turmoil of having to deal with it, like so much of playing The Man, has been a challenge, he’s always on edge and confused and so angry all the time.”
It sounds like he put A LOT into this project and into the character, and we have a feeling it paid off, just from watching the trailer alone.
You can look for The Tourist on January 1 in the U.K. via BBC One. You can also look for The Tourist in the U.S. via HBO Max, but the release date is still to come.
