James McAvoy and Millie Bobby Brown to Hand Over Social Media Accounts to Health Experts

James McAvoy and Millie Bobby Brown are among a host of well-known actors who've pledged to hand over their social media accounts to health and economic experts during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Julia Roberts, Hugh Jackman, David Oyelowo, Alan Cumming, Sarah Jessica Parker, and The Walking Dead's Danai Gurira will also give leading scientists and frontline workers access to their channels to help spread important, globally relevant information.

Devised by the ONE campaign, the #PassTheMic project will begin Thursday (May 21) with Roberts handing over her Instagram account – which has 8.7m followers – to Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.

In the coming days, different celebrities will hand over their accounts to other experts including Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, the former president of Liberia, who'll discuss her country's response to the Ebola epidemic, and Minouche Shafik, director of the London School of Economics.

"Beating the virus means listening to the experts and following the science, data, and facts to get ahead of it. This impressive group of talent and experts from around the world will put a spotlight on the need for a global response to this pandemic,” said ONE Campaign President and CEO, Gayle Smith.

“We need global cooperation and action to fight this pandemic — especially for the people, communities, and countries that are least able to withstand the shock. Because none of us are safe until all of us are safe.”

Earlier in the pandemic, McAvoy donated a six-figure sum to a fundraising campaign providing the U.K.'s NHS workers with adequate PPE (personal protective equipment).
