Now that No Time to Die has released, we’re living in a post-Daniel Craig landscape, and there’s no James Bond, as of now.
But, rest assured, there are plans to continue the franchise.
Barbara Broccoli is a longtime producer of the James Bond movies, referred to respectively as a “Bond Boss,” and she’s been very forthcoming about moving forward.
During a Deadline Hollywood event, Broccoli confirmed the next actor to play Bond is still undecided, but she did share some comforting words for Bond fans, saying, “We’ll figure that one out, but he will be back. You can rest assured James Bond will be back.”
If you’d like to watch the interview via Zoom, you can do so here.
It’s not just that Craig has made his exit and it’s time to swap in a new actor, it’s that Bond has moved from MGM to Amazon, which promises change.
It’s just unknown what that means.
In a separate interview with RadioTimes, Broccoli talked about Bond, past and present, saying: “We make theatrical films and go to great pains to make them as cinematic as possible. We have always worked with great directors and cinematographers and production designers who do their utmost to create a visual feast for people to enjoy.”
She hinted at the future, saying, “I think that’s what we intend to do, but things change, so who knows? Down the road, it may be different.”
Broccoli was firm on one item, though, nixing the idea of any character spinoffs, saying, “Sure, there are other main characters like M and Q and all that. But we haven’t really wanted to make a Bond film without Bond. It would be like making Hamlet without Hamlet.”
Now that she’s put it out there, we kind of like the idea of a feature film dedicated entirely to Ben Whishaw as Q or a Dame Judi Dench-starrer as M. Maybe we can leave that to fan fiction.
While there are no concrete Bond plans, are you enjoying the chatter?
