J.K. Rowling's 'Fantastic Beasts 3' Will Be Filmed Next Year in Rio de Janeiro
Today brings great news for fans of J.K. Rowling's Wizarding World. Following a slight delay, the third Fantastic Beasts movie will start shooting next spring, Deadline reports, in an exciting new location: Rio de Janeiro.
Eddie Redmayne and Jude Law will reprise their roles as Newt Scamander and Albus Dumbledore, joined once again by Johnny Depp (Gellert Grindelwald), Ezra Miller (Credence / Aurelius Dumbledore), Alison Sudol (Queenie Goldstein), Dan Fogler (Jacob Kowalski), and Katherine Waterston (Tina Goldstein).
Meanwhile, after making a brief appearance in the last movie, Jessica Williams will feature more prominently in the third instalment. She plays Professor Eulalie 'Lally' Hicks, a teacher at the American version of Hogwarts, Ilvermorny School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Rowling tweeted last year that Williams' character would really get to shine in the third movie.

David Yates, who directed 2016's Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, its 2018 sequel Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald (2018), and the final four Harry Potter movies, is returning to direct "FB3." Rowling has written the screenplay with Steve Kloves, who scripted all but one of the Potter movies.
The third movie was originally due to start shooting in July of this year, but the production team apparently needed more time to prepare following a quick turnaround on the first two movies. Fantastic Beasts 3 is set to open in theaters on November 12, 2021.
Redmayne and Law chatted about the secrecy clauses they've signed for the Fantastic Beasts franchise during an appearance on The Graham Norton Show last year – check out the clip below.
