There were mixed reviews for last year's revival of cult '90s show The X-Files, but that hasn't stopped Fox ordering another 10 episodes.

(Wait, not that Fox. Fox, as in Mulder — doesn't matter.) Anyway. The announcement was made last night (April 20) after plenty of teasing and rumors among fans, especially since season ten ended on about as big a cliffhanger as you can possibly get.

(Don't worry, this is a spoiler-free zone, though consider this a warning to catch up on season ten if you haven't already, to see what we mean.)

The new season will have four more episodes than the last, and will be what Fox is calling an "event series." What that means exactly we don't know, nor is there currently any word on when it will be released, though production is scheduled to begin this summer with a launch expected at some point during the 2017-18 television season.

Of course it wouldn't be X-Files without Mulder and Scully, and both David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson took to social media to express their excitement at returning.

Since the show's initial run, both actors have of course moved on into other high-profile roles, what with David winning a Golden Globe for his performance as writer Hank Moody in Californication, and Gillian playing Superintendent Stella Gibson in the critically acclaimed drama The Fall, so it warms the cockles of our hearts to see them still keen on the roles that made them household names.
