Idris Elba to Play the Villain in 'Fast and Furious' Spin-Off
Hobbs and Shaw is shaping up to be a surefire Anglo hit, as none other than Idris Elba is added to the cast. Just days after we told you The Crown star Vanessa Kirby would be joining the Fast and Furious spin-off, Variety reports that Luther himself is in final negotiations to play the film's villain.
He'll muscle up against special agent Luke Hobbs (Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson) and criminal mastermind Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham), not to mention Vanessa, who plays an MI-5 agent and Deckard's sister.
Not much else is known about the plot or Idris's role, but whatever kind of villain he is, Luke and Deckard are going to have to put their egos aside and team up to take him down. We can almost guarantee there'll be some snark, a fight, at least one car chase, and eventually Idris will go down. (Boo!)
The franchise's veteran scribe Chris Morgan is writing the script, with Deadpool 2 and Atomic Blonde director David Leitch set to helm.
Now all we need is for Dame Helen Mirren to reprise her role as Deckard's mom, and we've got an Anglo full house.
Hobbs and Shaw opens in theaters on July 26, 2019.
Are you excited to see Idris square up against Jason and The Rock?
