Helen Mirren is known to take on a number of genres, ranging from historical period dramas to thrillers, landing on action. This time around, she’s going Western.
The TV series Yellowstone kicked off in 2018 and is heading into its fifth season, starring Kevin Costner as rancher John Dutton. There’s now a prequel series in the works, which was originally entitled 1932 and has just recently been changed to 1923, reports Deadline.
The official synopsis might help fill in some of the blanks, reading: “1923 focuses on the Dutton family’s next two generations as they struggle to survive historic drought, lawlessness and prohibition, and an epidemic of cattle theft; all battled beneath the cloud of Montana’s great depression, which preceded the nation by almost a decade.”
Changing the name of the series doesn’t just change the timeframe but also the storyline. It seems like quite the overhaul. But, with the series set to premiere in December, it’s in the nick of time.
Either way, we know Mirren is on board, which is enough to get our attention. Her character has yet to be announced, but we do know she will star opposite American A-lister Harrison Ford.
