Happy Valley's third and final season will premiere on BBC America, AMC+, and Acorn TV in May 2023, AMC Networks has announced today (January 10).

Sarah Lancashire will reprise her iconic role as Sergeant Catherine Cawood, joined by Siobhan Finneran as her sister Clare, Rhys Connah as her grandson Ryan, and James Norton as her nemesis, the murderer and sex offender Tommy Lee Royce. The multi-award-winning series written and created by Sally Wainwright is set and filmed in Yorkshire's Calder Valley.

The official plot synopsis for the final season teases: "When Catherine (Sarah Lancashire) discovers the remains of a gangland murder victim in a drained reservoir it sparks a chain of events that unwittingly leads her straight back to Tommy Lee Royce (James Norton).

"Her grandson, Ryan, is now sixteen and still living with Catherine, but he has ideas of his own about what kind of relationship he wants to have with the man Catherine refuses to acknowledge as his father. Still battling the seemingly never-ending problem of drugs in the valley and those who supply them, Catherine is on the cusp of retirement."

AMC Networks has also announced today that the new nature series Chasing the Rains will premiere on BBC America and AMC+ on April 22. Narrated by award-winning Bridgerton actor Adjoa Andoh, this epic four-part series will take audiences on a journey into one of the most majestic, unspoiled, and rarely filmed areas in Africa.

The series' synopsis teases: "Featuring an in-depth look at wildlife that struggle to survive through cycles of drought and dramatic rainfall, the series was filmed beyond the jagged peaks of Mount Kenya, in the great rangelands of the north, beginning at the end of the long rains, when river valleys, plains and mountains are flushed with new growth.

"Water is the lifeblood of this sprawling landscape and all life here dances to the tune of the rains. Many months or sometimes years pass before a drop of rain falls so all species must learn to survive these droughts which are increasing in intensity due to climate change."
