If you haven’t heard yet, Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman is being adapted for TV. In true Neil fashion, he’s recruited a stellar cast, with Tom Sturridge taking on the title role. And, we can also look for Gwendoline Christie as the one and only… Lucifer.
In a recent interview with Empire, Christie talks about enjoying being “awful” on-screen, but in a good way, with Lucifer being the ultimate baddie.
She elaborates on the casting, saying, “I was so thrilled Allen Heinberg, (co-showrunner]) asked me to play Lucifer, because it is a grandiose part. There are few castings that can supersede that – maybe God, whatever that is! Also, it’s fun to be awful.”
Heinberg reciprocated, saying, “Lucifer is this Bowie-esque creature in the comic book and I thought, ‘Well who is a bigger f’ing rock star than Gwendoline Christie?’”
He got that right. Christie’s breakthrough role was in 2012 as Brienne of Tarth in Game of Thrones. Since then, we’ve seen her in the Star Wars franchise and the crime series Top of the Lake.
We look forward to more of Christie as the foreboding Lucifer, aka the Devil.
In case you missed it, here’s a peek at the first look trailer for The Sandman:

The series is set to premiere on August 5 over at Netflix.
