The first season of Surface premiered earlier this year, starring Gugu Mbatha-Raw. Mbatha-Raw takes on the role of Sophie, a woman recovering from a near death-experience, resulting in amnesia.
Sophie’s story continues with a second season confirmed, reports ComingSoon.net. The forthcoming season will be set in London, England, Sophie’s hometown. We will learn even more about her backstory and what brought her to the U.S., ultimately landing her in the sea (the aforementioned near-death experience).
If you were left with some questions at the end of season one, you’re not alone. But with Mbatha-Raw talking about what’s to come, she helps fill in some blanks, saying in a statement, “I am thrilled to continue this journey and dive deeper into the tension and mystery of Surface with this brilliant team.”
She expands on what she means by the above: “I love playing Sophie and I can’t wait for fans and new audiences to join us as she enters the dangerous new world of her past in Season Two. As an actor and executive producer, it’s incredibly meaningful to be bringing this story home to London.”
