Graham Norton Announced as Host of BAFTA Film Awards 2020November 22, 2019
The BAFTA Film Awards have announced their 2020 host, and it's our very own Graham Norton!
He takes over from Absolutely Fabulous actress Joanna Lumley, who's hosted the last two BAFTA Film Awards. Before that, Stephen Fry was regular host of the annual awards ceremony recognizing excellence in movies from the U.K. and all over the world.
Though Graham's never hosted the BAFTA Film Awards before, he's often hosted the BAFTA TV Awards, so there's no doubt he knows the drill. He also has five BAFTA awards in his trophy cabinet, all for The Graham Norton Show, so he's definitely earned his stripes.
The ceremony takes place at London's Royal Albert Hall on February 2 2020, which gives him plenty of time to think up some zingers. It'll air that night at 9/8c on BBC America.
“I’m delighted to be taking the helm of the biggest night in British Film," he said in a statement. "The audience at the Royal Albert Hall will be the biggest sofa I’ve ever faced. I’m honored to be following in the fabulous footsteps of Stephen Fry and Joanna Lumley.”
BAFTA's Chief Executive, Amanda Berry OBE, added: "With Graham as our host I have no doubt we will deliver a very special celebration of the very best in film, and pay tribute to the most talented and creative people both in front of and behind the camera.”
In the meantime, you can catch the genial Irishman on tonight's episode of The Graham Norton Show, which airs 11/10c on BBC America. He'll be joined on the big red sofa by Olivia Colman, Helena Bonham Carter, Chadwick Boseman, Richard Ayoade, and One Direction's Niall Horan.
Lady Glenconner, a close friend of the late Princess Margaret – whom Bonham Carter portrays on The Crown – will also be dropping in. Check out a rather risqué preview clip below.
What kind of hosting style do you think Graham will bring to the BAFTA Film Awards?
