German Chocolate Factory Overflow Results in Chocolate Highway

If you're a chocolate lover, this factory glitch, which saw a ton (2,000 lbs.) of melted chocolate spill into the street, may sound like a dream come true. If you're a chocolate maker... this might be the worst headache ever.

But, let's lean toward the former, and take a look at the fun side of this candylicious mishap.

Just yesterday (December 12), it was reported by BBC News that a tank of chocolate tipped over inside of a German factory, spilling into the street, located in the town of Westönnen.

Because of the cool weather, the liquid chocolate quickly solidified, creating a sort of "chocolate highway," about 108 square feet. We're keen on the idea of children, and adults alike, coming out with spoons to chip away their own personal chocolate popsicle.

Alas, that probably wasn't the case, with firefighters working to clear the street, using shovels, hot water (hot chocolate!?) and blowtorches.

Even TIME magazine couldn't resist making the tie to Willy Wonka and his chocolate river:

And, of course, we can't leave out the time when Homer Simpson made a trip to "the land of chocolate," aka Germany:

And, to go a step further, when Homer cut off a sugar struck:

We hope the factory is back in business and didn't suffer a huge financial loss.

Do you think this may have upped Germany's edge in the chocolate game?
