Emilia Clarke has just said farewell to her most famous role, Daenerys in Game of Thrones, but in a new interview, the candid actress revealed why she turned down another high-profile part.

Clarke was offered the role of Anastasia Steele in the original Fifty Shades of Grey movie, which Dakota Johnson ultimately played, but declined because she feared a sexist response to the on-screen nudity that the project required.

After praising the "beautiful" vision of the movie's director, Sam Taylor-Johnson, Clarke said during a Hollywood Reporter roundtable discussion: "But the last time that I was naked on camera on [Game of Thrones] was a long time ago, and yet it is the only question that I ever get asked because I am a woman. And it's annoying as hell and I'm sick and tired of it because I did it for the character."

She added: "I did a minimal amount [of on-screen nudity] and I'm pigeonholed for life, so me saying yes to that, where the entire thing is about sensuality and sex and being naked and all of that stuff, I was just like, "No way am I going to voluntarily walk into that situation and then never be able to look someone in the eye and be like, 'No, you can't keep asking me this question.'"

Clarke is known for speaking openly in interviews. She recently revealed that she survived two life-threatening aneurysms during the early years of Game of Thrones.

Post-Thrones, her upcoming roles include Last Christmas, a holiday rom-com co-starring Crazy Rich Asians Henry Golding and Dame Emma Thompson, who co-wrote its script. It's due in theaters November 8.
