First Look: The Internet Reacts to Henry Cavill in 'The Witcher'

Forget Beyoncé, Harry Styles or Stephen Merchant: One of the most talked-about Halloween costumes yesterday (October 31) was Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia.

Except this wasn't just a Halloween costume: the Superman star was in fact undergoing a make-up and costume fitting for the lead role in new series The Witcher, which Netflix released on Twitter.

Based on a popular video games and books franchise by Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski, the story follows a "witcher" called Geralt of Rivia who hunts monsters and has supernatural abilities — not to mention fabulous silver tresses and cheekbones to die for.

Perhaps it was just the playful Halloween spirit, but people on Twitter were quick to compare it to other looks:

Some thought he bore a resemblance to Benedict Cumberbatch as Julian Assange in The Fifth Estate (2013):

...while others were reminded of Peep Show's David Mitchell as an evil genius in 2006 sketch show The Mitchell and Webb Look:

And others thought he looked like a cross between Legolas (Orlando Bloom) and Lucius Malfoy (Jason Isaacs):

And then there's the resemblance to Jon Snow, a.k.a. Kit Harington, dressed, as, well, Daenerys:
