First Look: Suranne Jones Heads Underwater in BBC Nuclear Thriller Series 'Vigil'

Today brings a first look at the fantastic Suranne Jones in upcoming BBC thriller series Vigil.

The Doctor Foster and Gentleman Jack actress stars in the six-parter as DCI Amy Silver, a British police offer investigating the disappearance of a Scottish fishing trawler and a death on board a Trident nuclear submarine.

According to the BBC's synopsis, this leads her toward "a conspiracy that threatens the very heart of Britain’s nuclear deterrent."

The first-look image shows Jones' DCI Silver on board a submarine with its Chief Petty Officer Elliot Glover, played by Shaun Evans (Endeavour, Ashes to Ashes).

Vigil's ensemble cast also includes Game of Thrones and Luther alum Rose Leslie, Line of Duty's Martin Compston, Sex Education actor Connor Swindells, Paterson Joseph (Doctor Who, Peep Show), and Anjli Mohindra (Doctor Who, Bodyguard).

It's been written and created by Tom Edge, whose credits include episodes of The Crown and the screenplay for Judy, the Judy Garland biopic featuring an Oscar-winning performance from Renée Zellweger.

Shooting on Vigil was halted by Covid-19 earlier this year but has resumed this week near Glasgow in Scotland. The BBC said in a statement: "Together with independent health and safety consultants, in full consultation with industry partners, and in accordance with all current government guidelines, the Vigil production team will adhere to comprehensive production protocols to ensure that the series is produced in a safe and responsible manner during this time of global pandemic."

There's no word yet on when Vigil will air in the U.K. or whether it's been picked up by a U.S. broadcaster. But given the level of talent involved, it surely won't be too long.
