First Look: Shia LaBeouf as Tennis Legend John McEnroe in Sports Biopic
The first trailer for the upcoming sports biopic Borg vs. McEnroe has been released to coincide with the start of Wimbledon 2017, and the film already looks like a winner.
Shia LaBeouf is kind of a polarizing figure, but casting him as John McEnroe feels pretty smart as he too is kind of a polarizing figure. Meanwhile, Swedish rising star Sverrir Gudnason seems to capture the glacial Scandi-cool of McEnroe's old rival, Björn Borg.
Check out the teaser below — and watch out for LaBeouf's take on an iconic McEnroe line.

The Borg–McEnroe tennis rivalry offers prime fodder for a sports biopic: the two champs had wildly contrasting personalities, often dubbed "fire and ice," and they split their 14 official matches right down the middle with seven wins apiece. Borg vs. McEnroe also benefits from the presence of terrific Swedish actor Stellan Skarsgård (Good Will Hunting, Thor), who plays Borg's coach, Lennart Bergelin.
Fans on Twitter already seem pretty stoked to see LaBeouf channeling McEnroe.

Borg vs. McEnroe hits theaters in the U.K. and Sweden this September, but we're still waiting for confirmation of a U.S. release date.
But if you're feeling impatient, you can make a date in your diary for the year's other big tennis flick, Battle of the Sexes, in which Emma Stone portrays Billie Jean King and Steve Carell plays her rather chauvinistic adversary, Bobby Riggs.
This one opens September 22 — check out the trailer below.
