First Look: Russell T Davies' 'A Very English Scandal' Begins Filming with Hugh Grant and Ben Whishaw On-Set

Former Doctor Who showrunner Russell T Davies is bringing a made-for-TV-movie to BBC One, called A Very English Scandal, which we reported on a month ago.

Filming has begun and we have a first look at the leads, Hugh Grant and Ben Whishaw, who take on the personas of real-life politician MP Jeremy Thorpe (Grant) and his ex-lover Norman Scott (Whishaw). Thorpe very much didn't want anyone to know about his relationship with Scott behind closed doors, so he took drastic measures to cover up the dalliance... as in attempted murder, which Thorpe was tried for in 1979.

The outcome of the trial might be the most scandalous of all, but we don't want to spoil anything.

But, on a lighter note, Grant and Whishaw seem to be in good spirits on-set, buddying up in this snap, courtesy of BBC One:

Davies recently talked about working with Grant and Whishaw in adapting the story for TV, telling RadioTimes, "It’s just a dream casting. It’s so exciting, I can’t begin to tell you. It’s very, very exciting.”

Also exciting, Davies will be handling the writing and working with Stephen Frears (Victoria and Abdul), who will be directing.

The premiere date has yet to be announced, but with filming started... well, that's a start. We'll keep you updated.
