Kate Winslet and daughter Mia Threapleton are teaming up for a feature-length TV drama about mental health, and today brings a first look at the family duo in action.
Titled I Am Ruth, the one-off drama is part of U.K. network Channel 4's I Am anthology series. According to Channel 4's synopsis, "The film offers an honest and authentic portrayal of a mother and daughter’s increasingly strained relationship. Winslet stars as Ruth, a loving and concerned mother who witnesses her teenage daughter Freya (Threapleton) retreating into herself as she becomes more and more consumed by the pressures of social media."
The evocative first look image shows Winslet's worried mom comforting her daughter:

In addition to starring in I Am Ruth, Winslet developed and co-authored its storyline with the anthology series' creator Dominic Savage. "The collaborative and sensitive way in which Dominic Savage goes about creating and filming each episode of I Am is challenging, rewarding and completely immersive," Winslet said in a statement. "The actors become these roles, and there is simply no room for pretending. It's a working environment that any actor would give anything to be a part of, and I can safely say with my hand on heart that I will never forget the things we learned as we made this piece."
The first season of I Am premiered in 2019 and featured six one-off dramas starring Vicky McClure, Samantha Morton, Gemma Chan, Suranne Jones, Letitia Wright, and Lesley Manville.
Threapleton, Winslet's eldest daughter, is very much following in her mother's footsteps. You can also catch her in the historical drama series Dangerous Liaisons, which premiered on Starz earlier this week. Threapleton previously had a small role in her mom's 2014 movie A Little Chaos, which was directed by the late Alan Rickman.
