First Look: Jude Law Stars in New Trailer for Drama 'The Nest'

Jude Law (The New Pope) stars in the forthcoming IFC Films drama The Nest, reports ComingSoon.net. Set in the 1980s, he plays an English man living in the New York area with his American wife and family.

He works on Wall Street and the market has become stale. Slightly out of the blue, he decides to up and move himself and family back to his native England, thinking there will be more opportunity. And, where do they land? In a mansion, out in the country, away from any signs of life.

Living in an isolated, oversized house never bodes well...

Law's character Rory commutes to London for business and is able to get out and about, hitting up "fancy parties" at night. Meanwhile, his wife (Carrie Coon) is left behind to pass long hours on her own while the kids are at school.

In the new trailer, she seems pretty over it, saying to him, "We don't have any friends here. We don't have any family. What does it matter so much to you?"

His answer is less than ideal:

At first glance, it might seem like a horror movie, revolving around a haunted house, but it's actually based in reality, revolving around emotional abuse.

The Nest premiered at this year's Sundance Film Festival, with The Hollywood Reporter describing it as, "A hyper-nuanced study of marriage mind games." You can look for it in theaters on September 18.

Written and directed by Sean Durkin, this is his follow-up to 2011's Martha Marcy May Marlene.
