'Fantastic Beasts' Sequel Begins Filming with New Plot Details Released

We've yet to learn the name of the next Fantastic Beasts film, but we do indeed know returning cast members Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston and Dan Fogler are currently back on set.

And it sounds like it's going to be a war of the wizards, with the story opening in 1927 a few months following the ending of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them when Newt Scamander (Redmayne) revealed the identity of Gellert Grindewald (Johnny Depp), reports The Hollywood Reporter.

Warner Bros. released an official description of the plot. If you're not interested in knowing just yet, please look away as there are slight spoilers below.

You still with us? OK, here's the announcement from WB, saying: "Grindelwald has made a dramatic escape and has been gathering more followers to his cause – elevating wizards above all non-magical beings. The only one who might be able to stop him is the wizard he once called his dearest friend, Albus Dumbledore. But Dumbledore will need help from the wizard who had thwarted Grindelwald once before, his former student Newt Scamander."

There will be some new faces joining the returning cast, as reported earlier we can look for Jude Law (The Young Pope) as Dumbledore, prior to his becoming the Headmaster of Hogwarts. We had a brief look at Zoë Kravitz (Big Little Lies) as Leta Lestrange in a moving photo in the first film, with her character having more screen time in the follow-up. Callum Turner (War & Peace) will star as Newt's brother, Theseus Scamander. You can also look for Claudia Kim (Avengers: Age of Ultron) as an attraction at a wizarding circus, reports Variety.

Ezra Miller (Trainwreck) will return as Credence Barebone.

The Fantastic Beasts sequel, written by Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling, is set for a 2018 release. It will be the second in a series of five films, spinning off from the Harry Potter series.

Speaking of Rowling, who we can count on for regular Twitter updates, retweeted this note from Pottermore:
