Emma Stone is a Punk Rock Lovin', London Livin' Cruella de Vil in First Look 'Cruella' Photo
This is not your grandmother's Cruella de Vil. Disney's live-action origin film Cruella has been in the works since last year, and over the weekend (August 24) a first look photo of Emma Stone as the title character was released:

Cruella de Vil was first introduced in Dodie Smith's 1956 children's book The Hundred and One Dalmatians. The story centers on a litter of Dalmatians who go missing. It's suspected de Vil is behind the kidnapping, as she detests animals, but loves fur coats. Disney brought the search-and-rescue mission to the big screen in 1961, with the animated film 101 Dalmatians. And in 1996, Glenn Close stepped into the baddie role in the live-action adaptation.
In the upcoming prequel film, Stone portrays a younger version of de Vil and we learn more about her killer taste. The film is set in the 1980s London and is promised to have a "punk rock vibe." When we first saw de Vil on the big screen, she was plenty sassy, so we can only expect even more of that attitude.
Anyone can throw on a half-black/half-white wig and we'd get the point, "Oh, she's Cruella de Vil," but it seems Stone is really owning it in the above, with the icy expression, power stance and unbreakable grip on that leash. She is donning a leather jacket instead of her signature fur coat — but, this is an origin story — so, possibly she's yet to acquire the funds for her champagne living tastes at this point in time.
Cruella is expected in theaters on May 28, 2021. You can also look for Emma Thompson, Paul Walter Hauser and Joel Fry.
Do you think Emma Stone can bring something new to this classic character?
