Edgar Wright's New London-Set Horror Movie Now Has a Title and Star
Director Edgar Wright has cast Anya Taylor-Joy (Split, Barry) as the lead in his next film, a psychological horror-thriller titled Last Night in Soho.
Wright has penned the film's script with Penny Dreadful writer Krysty Wilson-Cairns, Variety reports. He's keeping plot details close to his chest, but as the title suggests, it's set in London's characterful Soho quarter. This popular central London destination is a former red-light district that's retained a risqué edge despite being gentrified in recent decades.
Shooting is due to start this summer on location in the U.K. capital. Last Night in Soho finds Wright branching out again after 2017's Baby Driver, his first straight up action film following the action-comedy Scott Pilgrim vs. the World and his "Three Flavours Cornetto" trilogy of genre comedies with frequent collaborator Simon Pegg.
"I realized I had never made a film about central London – specifically Soho, somewhere I've spent a huge amount of time in the last 25 years," Wright told Empire last month. "With Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead you make movies about places you’ve lived in. This movie is about the London I've existed in."
Keeping busy, Wright is also working on a sequel to Baby Driver and a rockumentary about cult art-rock band Sparks.
Meanwhile, Taylor-Joy has recently appeared alongside James McAvoy in M. Night Shyamalan's hit superhero movie Glass, which opened in theaters last month. She's also been cast in the next season of Peaky Blinders, due to debut later this year.
