‘Doctor Who’s Day Roundup: “There’s Nothing ‘Only’ About Being a Girl”

Welcome to this week’s Doctor Who’s Day roundup, a great big suitcase crammed with a week’s worth of Whovian news, fandom and creativity across the internet and social media.

And we begin this week noting that it has been International Women’s Day all over the world, nay the UNIVERSE!

And as Doctor Who has always been one of the most inclusive science fiction shows of all time, naturally there is a lot of evidence of female strength and ingenuity to draw on.

Radio Times held a discussion among the show’s female team members.

Hats were doffed in the direction of Verity Lambert and Delia Derbyshire, without whom there would be no Doctor Who and no Doctor Who theme either:

And there was this perfectly timed note of appreciation for the fans:

Of course it’s been a perfect trigger for fan artists to get creative:

Here’s what else has been going on in space and time this week:

• This delightful silent LEGO animation in which a Dalek gets a wallop:

• Thirteen in all her starstruck glory:

• This absolutely lovely acoustic guitar adaptation of Clara’s Theme:

• The very reassuring face of Ten:

• Season Eight – the Third Doctor’s second – is coming to steelbook, so here’s an official trailer of the sort of thing we can expect:

• And there’s even a fan-made trailer ready to go too:

• “No no, hear me out. What if the TARDIS came across an enormous space hologram of Eleven’s face, only he’s actually Mickey Mouse?”

• This seems a fair point. You might need to click the link to get the full kaleidoscopic effect:

• The First Doctor, as he would appear if he materialized one of Tintin’s adventures:

• Noel Clarke and Keeley Hawes have both taken souvenirs from the Doctor Who set, but how have they been treated since?

Bill Potts, just because:

• These trippy work-in-progress suggestions for where to take the Doctor Who opening credits next:

• This remarkable handmade birthday card:

• The eternal joy that is Ten and Rose:

• And to round things off on a musical note: we post a lot of fan-made musical tributes to Doctor Who here, but would you like to know how they do it?

Here are a few hints and tips for the ‘80s Who theme, which may give you an idea on how to get started:

And then there’s this, a genuinely uncanny attempt to answer the question, what if the acclaimed British electronic pioneer and musique concrète innovator Daphne Oram created the Doctor Who theme, instead of Delia Derbyshire?

While we’re on the topic, would anyone like an eerie synth cover of Murray Gold’s theme “The Doctor Forever”? Of course you would:
