Matt Smith starred as the Eleventh Doctor from 2010-2014 in Doctor Who. Since then, he’s explored a number of genres, including action (Terminator Genisys), period drama (The Crown) and back to sci-fi (Last Night in Soho).
He’s now stepping into the horror genre, set to star in Starve Acre, reports ComingSoon.net.
The forthcoming movie is based on Andrew Michael Hurley’s 2019 novel. The name of the novel, which is the same as the movie, is based on the location.
Smith is set to portray a man named Richard, who lives in the rural English countryside with his wife (Morfydd Clark) and son, and Starve Acre is the name of their home.
The name of their home is very telling and it suggests there could be problems attached to their dwellings.
Richard, who is an archaeologist, is fascinated with an oak tree on their property that he believes to have mystical powers. He’s consumed with investigating the myth about the tree.
It’s not just the tree that is perplexing, but their son Ewan is not acting like himself.
According to the description, his wife Juliette turns to the local community for comfort.
If Clark is new to you, you may have seen her in 2019’s horror film Saint Maud.

Writer-director Daniel Kokotajlo (Apostasy) is set to bring the story to the big screen.

There are a lot of talented people attached to this project already.
The start date has yet to be announced, but we’re excited to learn more.
