Ridley Scott's Gladiator premiered in 2000 and now the director is talking about a follow-up, reports Empire Online.

The original saw Russell Crowe in the title role, as a Roman general who is forced into slavery. From there, he needs to fight his way out, battling in arenas to win his freedom. And, battling for the honor of his family, who was slain by the tyrant emperor (Joaquin Phoenix).

Scott has plans for a Gladiator 2, but before that, he has two movies coming out this year. You can look for The Last Duel, starring Killing Eve's Jodie Comer, premiering October 15. Later this year, Scott will also release The House of Gucci, premiering November 24.

And, from there, Scott will turn his attention to Napoleon Bonaparte with his forthcoming biopic Kitbag.

Once completed, Scott will have the time to work on the Gladiator sequel, saying to Empire, "I’m already having [the next] Gladiator written now. So when I’ve done Napoleon, Gladiator will be ready to go."

While the premiere seems like a way off, the project is in movement, with the interest there and the writing having begun.

To backtrack, Scott has been making movies for three decades, with one of his most celebrated being 1979's Alien.

There's no mention of casting for Gladiator 2, but we hope to see Crowe in the titular role, twenty plus years later.
