Dev Patel Voices English-Language Version of Award-Winning French Animated Movie 'I Lost My Body'

Dev Patel has added his voice to the English-language version of I Lost My Body, a quirky-looking French animated movie which won a prize at this year's Cannes Film Festival.

Alia Shawkat (Search Party) and George Wendt (Cheers) have also recorded roles for the movie's English dub ahead of its release next month, Deadline reports.

The movie is loosely based on the novel Happy Hand by Guillaume Laurant, whose screenwriting credits include beloved French film Amelie. It tells the story of a severed hand that tries to escape from a Paris laboratory so it can reconnect – quite literally! – with its owner, a pizza boy named Naoufel, now voiced by Patel. Shawkat provides the English voice of Georgina, his love interest.

Netflix has acquired the global rights to the movie, which will open in U.S. theaters on November 15 and in the U.K. on November 22 before streaming from November 29.

Patel's next live-action role isn't far off, either. He plays the lead in The Personal Tale of David Copperfield, the new movie from Veep creator Armando Iannucci, which is due out early 2020. It's based on Charles Dickens' classic Victorian novel and has an all-star cast including Tilda Swinton, Hugh Laurie, Ben Whishaw, Gwendoline Christie, and former Doctor Who star Peter Capaldi.
