Dawn French Gives an Update on the Future of 'French and Saunders' Sketch Show

Brace yourself if you're a French and Saunders fan, because Dawn French has delivered some rather disappointing news.
During an appearance on Sarah O'Connell's YouTube show, French confirmed she has no plans to revive her comedy double act with longtime friend Jennifer Saunders. "I'm done with that," French told O'Connell. "Done with the double act part of it – not done with her. There's lots of things I'd love to do with her, but doing sketches on telly, I think we've had our moment with it."
The duo's BBC sketch show French and Saunders was enormously popular from the late eighties to mid-noughties. During this time, they became especially well known for their lavishly produced parodies of movies including Titanic, Thelma & Louise, and The Lord of the Rings
French and Saunders officially bid farewell to their comedy double act with a 2008-9 tour. However, they did subsequently shoot some new sketches for a one-off BBC compilation show, 2017's 300 Years of French and Saunders.
French admitted during the new interview that Saunders – also known for writing and starring in Absolutely Fabulous – is "trying to persuade me to do some more [sketches]."
She also shared the sweet way she and Saunders said goodbye to their double act at the end of their 2008-9 tour. "We both have the same tattoo, which we got on the very last night of doing our double act," she recalled. "We were on tour in Auckland in New Zealand, and we knew we wouldn't be touring our double act again. I mean, you know, here I am saying that and that was lots of years ago."
It's not all sad news, though. You can catch French and Saunders in Kenneth Branagh's all-star film adaptation of Agatha Christie's Death on the Nile, which sails into theaters on February 11, 2022. And in the meantime, you can relive some of their most iconic movie spoofs below.
