Director David Cronenberg has a long and varied CV, credited with well-known movies like 1986's The Fly and 1988's Dead Ringers. More recently, he made 2012's Cosmopolis starring Robert Pattinson.

But, his work isn't done when it comes to sci-fi, with him saying in an interview with Empire Online, "I have unfinished business with the future."

In his next film, Crimes of the Future, Cronenberg explores complex themes through the lens of sci-fi. In a near future, human beings are expected to adapt to their new synthetic surroundings. According to the description, people will evolve from their natural state to a metamorphosis. Ultimately, their their biological makeup will be altered.

Like a butterfly turning into a caterpillar? That's where our mind goes when hearing the word "metamorphosis." Probably not exactly, but we may not be too far off. The transformation is referred to as "Accelerated Evolution Syndrome," which some people embrace and others fear. We suppose, that's where the policing comes in.

Clearly, there are still some blanks that need to be filled in on what to expect.

But, what we do know that casting has begun, with Viggo Mortensen, Kristen Stewart and Léa Seydoux confirmed to take the leads, also reported by Empire.

Cronenberg wrote and directed a 1970 film by the same name, but it has a much different storyline:
