David Bowie's Son Duncan Jones Finds His Father's 'The Snowman' Scarf in Storage

David Bowie's son Duncan Jones has spread a bit of festive cheer on Twitter by revealing that he has found his father's scarf from The Snowman.

First broadcast on U.K. network Channel 4 in 1982, Dianne Jackson's animated short film The Snowman has become a Christmas staple, which is often shown following a live-action introduction from Bowie. The rock icon portrays a grown-up version of the little boy who befriends a magical flying snowman in the charming short film.

Jones, director of the movies Source Code on Moon, posted a photo of himself wearing his father's The Snowman scarf on Twitter with the caption: "Went looking for sock monkeys in the storage boxes and FOUND THE SCARF!!! YAY!"

Jones's tweet prompted a reply from Brian Harding, one of The Snowman's producers, who revealed the very sweet story of how Bowie came to keep the scarf for his son Zowie – which was Duncan Jones's name at the time.

"Hi Duncan! I am Brian Harding, who produced the filming of your father’s introduction to The Snowman,” he tweeted. “You may not remember the history. The Scarf was knitted by the lady in the accounts department of TVC, the production company who made the animation. She came onto the set and presented it to David. When filming was over, David asked very politely if he could keep the scarf to give to his son, Zowie."

He added: “This was the only fee he charged for the filming and I believe he offered his services for personal reasons. He was charming throughout and totally professional. I am glad that the scarf found its way to the destination he intended: from the dude to another dude.”
