Dame Judi Dench Will Reunite with Sir Ian McKellen for the New 'Cats' Movie
Forgive us for another Cats update (the second this week), but this was just too purrfect to ignore.
Deadline is reporting Dame Judi Dench has been added to the cast of the upcoming movie version of Andrew Lloyd Webber's famous musical, meaning she'll be donning a leotard alongside Sir Ian McKellen, James Corden, Idris Elba, Taylor Swift and Jennifer Hudson.
It's a particularly apt casting because Dame Judi was originally set to play Grizabella in the original 1981 West End production of the musical, but had to pull out after snapping her Achilles' tendon. (Elaine Paige replaced her and went on to become famous for the role.)
It'll also be something of a reunion with her old Royal Shakespeare Company alum Sir Ian. The pair famously played Lady Macbeth and Macbeth in a 1976 production of Shakespeare's play, and have since appeared in Jack and Sarah (1995) and the documentary Muse of Fire (2013).

But when they meet on screen again, it'll be as a pair of felines. Dame Judi is set to play Old Deuteronomy, the leader of feline tribe the Jellicles who's captured by Macavity (the bad guy cat who'll be played by Idris Elba), while Sir Ian plays Gus the Theatre Cat.
Rounding out those Jellicles are Jennifer Hudson as Grizabella, and dancer Mette Towley as Jemima, plus James Corden, Taylor Swift, and Laurie Davidson (Will) in as yet undisclosed roles.
We were already pretty excited about this movie, but this news is the cat's pajamas.
Are you excited to see Dame Judi and Sir Ian together again in Cats?
