Dame Joan Collins Is Auctioning a Glamorous Lunch Date to Raise Money for NHS

Dame Joan Collins is auctioning off a fancy lunch date to raise money for the U.K.'s National Health Service as it works to combat coronavirus.

The lunch date will take place at Claridge's, a five-star hotel in London's Mayfair which is one of the Dynasty actress's famous haunts, after social distancing rules have been relaxed and it's safe to meet in public again.

The lucky bidder won't just get to clink glasses with Collins, but also her husband Percy Gibson and their actor friend Christopher Biggins. Collins and Gibson held their wedding reception at the iconic hotel back in 2002.

In a post shared on Instagram, Collins acknowledged that the NHS is in "urgent need of funds" as the Coronavirus pandemic rages on, while Gibson reassured the lucky bidder they can order they like from the menu, and "it's on us."

This doesn't mean the lucky bidder will be getting a bargain, though: at the time of writing, bidding on the lunch date has already reached £1800 ($2235).

Collins, whose lengthy acting career began back in 1951, is known for her altruism and was made a Dame by Queen Elizabeth II in 2015 for services to charity. Her charitable contribution follows that of actor James McAvoy, who donated a sizeable sum to the NHS last week. Meanwhile, Killing Eve executive producer Phoebe Waller-Bridge has made her live stage version of Fleabag available to stream to raise money for charities working to combat COVID-19.
