Daisy Ridley (Star Wars) is set to star in The Marsh King's Daughter, which has been acquired by STXfilms, reports ComingSoon.net. 

Now that the movie has been picked up by a production company, it's one step closer to getting made.

Based on Karen Dionne's 2017 novel by the same name, the story revolves around a young woman named Helena (Ridley). Helena seems to be living an ordinary life and is happily married with two children and a successful career, but her upbringing, it turns out, was far from typical.

She carries the burden of a secret — her mother was abducted as a teen and held captive for years in the woods, where Helena was born and raised. Her mother's captor, and Helena's father, has recently escaped prison and now Helena calls on her survival training to track him.

The folks over at STXfilms seem to be excited about this project, with Motion Picture Group chairman Adam Fogelson saying in a statement, "Like The New York Times said about the novel, this project is as good as a thriller can be. Daisy Ridley is perfect for this role and we can’t wait to share this film with audiences in the territories we have acquired."

The Marsh King's Daughter will be directed by Neil Burger (Voyagers), with Elle and Mark L. Smith (The Revenant) co-writing the script.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Ridley talked about how things slowed down after filming the Star Wars trilogy (2015-2019), saying, "Weirdly, at the beginning of the year nothing was coming through. I was like, 'Aww! No one wants to employ me.'"

She went on to say that she was auditioning, but no offers were coming through, with her thinking to herself, "I had that moment of 'Oh my god!' and then just thought, 'Everything in its right time.'"

It appears things have turned around, and this is the time, with her landing what looks to be a challenging role.
