Colin Farrell Gives an Update on 'Dark' and 'Moving' Superhero Movie 'The Batman'
Colin Farrell has given an update on The Batman starring Robert Pattinson, surely one of next year's most eagerly-anticipated blockbusters.
The Irish actor is playing infamous villain The Penguin in the superhero movie, stepping into the shoes of Danny DeVito, who famously played The Penguin in 1992’s Batman Returns.
Matt Reeves (Cloverfeld, War of the Planet of the Apes) is directing the movie, and from what Farrell says, he's definitely envisaging a grown-up Batman story.
“I’m in the process of talking to Matt Reeves, who’s the director, who wrote the script, and wrote a really beautiful, dark, moving script, really gorgeous,” Farrell said during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live.
"It’s all very hush-hush, but it’s a really beautiful script that he wrote and he has a real love for it, Matt," he added. "So, we’re in the process of finishing designing the aesthetic of the character.”
Farrell's The Penguin is one of three main villains set to cause trouble for Pattinson’s caped crusader. Zoë Kravitz has been cast as Catwoman, while Paul Dano has landed the equally iconic role of the Riddler. Westworld's Jeffrey Wright will play Gotham City’s police chief, Commissioner James Gordon, and Andy Serkis has been cast as Bruce Wayne's Butler, Alfred.
Reeves started shooting the movie earlier this month in London, and The Batman is set for release on June 25, 2021. Hopefully we won't have to wait too long for our first look at Farrell in baddie mode.
