Clarice Starling is Returning to the Screen in 'Silence of the Lambs' Spinoff Series

Readers were introduced to FBI Agent Clarice Starling in author Thomas Harris' 1988 novel Silence of the Lambs. We then saw her come to life in the 1991 big screen adaptation, with Jodie Foster taking on the role.

In Silence of the Lambs, Starling is a newbie agent and tasked with tracking a serial killer. She seeks the help of Dr. Hannibal Lecter, who is also a serial killer, but behind bars. So, she can keep a safe distance while picking his brain. He agrees to help profile the serial killer on the loose, in exchange for prison perks. In the original film, Lecter was portrayed by Anthony Hopkins (he wasn't a "Sir" at the time of filming).

It's been confirmed that CBS is working on a sequel series and will pick up with Starling's career, following the events of Silence of the Lambs (versus the sequel novel/movie Hannibal). The series will simply be called Clarice, reports

Co-writers Alex Kurtzman and Jenny Lumet released a joint statement about the forthcoming series, saying, "After more than 20 years of silence, we’re privileged to give voice to one of America’s most enduring heroes – Clarice Starling."

It sounds like the new series will go beyond Clarice's career and we'll learn more about her as a person: "Clarice’s bravery and complexity have always lit the way, even as her personal story remained in the dark. But hers is the very story we need today: her struggle, her resilience, her victory. Her time is now, and always."

Here is the official synopsis for what's to come: "Set in 1993, a year after the events of The Silence of the LambsClarice is a deep dive into the untold personal story of FBI Agent Clarice Starling as she returns to the field to pursue serial murderers and sexual predators while navigating the high stakes political world of Washington, D.C."

Kurtzman and Lumet have worked together in the past, having collaborated on Star Trek: Discovery.  The two are currently working on a project called The Man Who Fell to Earth, which will premiere on CBS All Access.

Who do you think should play Clarice?? Maybe the casting director will see this space!!
