Chucky Goes A.I. in New 'Child's Play' Trailer

Mark Hamill (Star Wars) is set to give Chucky a new voice in the reboot of Child's Play, premiering on June 21. The trailer just released today (April 18), but we don't actually hear Hamill as Chucky just yet.

Even so, we do see that Chucky has had a modern makeover and is more technically advanced, with artificial intelligence included:

In the 1988 original, Chucky is possessed by a demon, using the doll to execute his evil intent. This time around, there's no demon, and in fact the doll is digital. Its programming has been hacked, increasing his ability to learn and... wreak havoc.

The above clip starts off at the toy factory, where we see "your new best friend" being made. When Chucky arrives to his new family's home, it appears he scans the little boy with a red light. Chucky is not just a doll, he's more of a robot... but, who is controlling him?

The new script is based off the original concept, written by Tyler Burton Smith (Kung Fury 2). The next installment of Child's Play is directed by Lars Kleverberg (Polaroid).

We can look for Aubrey Plaza (Parks and Recreations) and Gabriel Bateman (Benji), the mother-son duo who Chucky goes after. And listen for Mark Hamill as Chucky.

What do you think of the 21st century Chucky?
