Casting Update: Matt Smith Set to Join Edgar Wright's 'Last Night in Soho'

Matt Smith needs no introduction, being the Eleventh Doctor and all, but we do have a casting update for you.

Just yesterday, Focus Features announced that Smith will be starring in Edgar Wright's new film Last Night in Soho. The story is based in London and is being described as a psychological horror-thriller.

Hmm, that's quite a mashup of genres, all very intense (we're not complaining). There aren't a ton of details on the plot, but in an earlier statement, Wright said. "I realized I had never made a film about central London – specifically Soho, somewhere I’ve spent a huge amount of time in the last 25 years."

He went on to say Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead were both set in places he had lived and he'll do the same for Last Night in Soho: "This movie is about the London I've existed in."

Smith will be starring opposite Anya Taylor-Joy (The Witch), whose involvement was announced earlier this month. Thomasin McKenzie (The Changeover) rounds out the casting to date.

Wright co-wrote the movie with Krysty Wilson-Cairns, a former staff writer for Penny Dreadful.

Since we don't know what the story is just yet, it could go anywhere. Production is predicted to begin this summer.

Do you have a wish list for what Matt Smith's role will be??
