Casting News: Zoë Kravitz to Play Catwoman Opposite Robert Pattinson in 'The Batman'

Zoë Kravitz has been cast as Catwoman in the new Batman movie starring Robert Pattinson.

According to Variety, the Fantastic Beasts and Big Little Lies actress landed the role ahead of stiff competition from Alicia Vikander, Joker's Zazie Beetz, and Baby Driver's Eiza Gonzalez.

Titled The Batman, the upcoming superhero movie is being directed by Matt Reeves, who previously made Cloverfield and War of the Planet of the Apes. Pattinson was cast in the title role in May after the movie's producers whittled down their lead to either him or Nicholas Hoult. Pattinson has recently revealed he was "nervous" about losing the role following an untimely casting leak linking him to the project.

Shooting on The Batman is due to start in late 2019 or early 2020. Warner Bros. has already booked in a release date of June 25, 2021.

Kravitz follows in the footsteps of Michelle Pfeiffer, Halle Berry, and Anne Hathaway in portraying Selina Kyle a.k.a. Catwoman on the big screen. The iconic character has also been depicted in various TV series over the years, perhaps most notably by Eartha Kitt in the '60s show Batman.

In the meantime, Kravitz – daughter of rock star Lenny and The Cosby Show actress Lisa Bonet – will be seen in Hulu's High Fidelity series, a TV adaptation of the popular Nick Hornby novel which was previously made into a 2000 movie starring John Cusack.
