Casting News: Toni Collette to Star in Thriller Series 'Pieces of Her'
After earning Golden Globe and SAG Award nominations for her performance in Unbelievable, Toni Collette has signed up for another Netflix miniseries.
The Australian actress will star in Pieces of Her, an eight-episode thriller based on a novel of the same title by Karin Slaughter. She'll play Laura, a speech pathologist who appears to be "the perfect Southern woman," but turns out to be hiding a far darker secret identity.
Collette's co-stars haven't been confirmed yet, but in Slaughter's novel, Laura's daughter Andrea is the other key character. She discovers her mother's shocking hidden past after a routine trip to the mall is interrupted by a seemingly random act of violence.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the series is being steered by an all-female creative team led by showrunner Charlotte Stoudt (Homeland, Fosse/Verdon). Minkie Spiro (Dead to Me, Downton Abbey) will direct and produce.
Netflix has yet to announce a release date for Pieces of Her. But in the meantime, Collette's latest movie Dream Horse, an equestrian drama co-starring Damian Lewis, will arrive in theaters this May.
She's also due to star opposite Jesse Plemons, Jesse Buckley, and David Thewlis in I'm Thinking of Ending Things, the upcoming movie from Charlie Kaufman (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Being John Malkovich).
