Casting News: Toni Collette, David Thewlis and More Join New Charlie Kaufman Movie
Any Charlie Kaufman movie is an event, so it makes sense that his latest project is gathering quite the cast.
Toni Collette, Harry Potter alum David Thewlis, and rising star Jessie Buckley (Taboo, The Woman in White) have all signed up to appear in Kaufman's upcoming movie I’m Thinking of Ending Things, Variety has learned. They join Jesse Plemons (Black Mirror, Vice), who was already attached to the film.
Kaufman, who's won a trio of screenwriting BAFTAs for scripting Being John Malkovich, Adaptation, and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, is writing and directing the movie based on Ian Reid's novel of the same name.
Plemons will play a man who takes his girlfriend (Buckley) to meet his parents on their secluded farm, unaware that she is thinking of ending their relationship. However, an unexpected detour apparently leads to "a twisted mix of palpable tension, psychological frailty, and sheer terror." Anyone who's seen Kaufman's previous movies will know that the narrative is likely to be anything but predictable.
It's not confirmed who Collette and Thewlis are playing, though it seems reasonable to presume that they could be appearing as Plemons' parents.

Kaufman made his directorial debut with 2008's Synecdoche, New York and followed it with 2015 animated feature Anomalisa, which was nominated for an Oscar. I’m Thinking of Ending Things will be his first film for Netflix.
Kaufman's movie is the second casting of the month for Collette, who has also signed for Dream Alliance, an upcoming horse racing drama which co-stars Damian Lewis
